Heritage properties present significant challenges. Cracked, missing or deteriorated mortar between the masonry units provides a direct path for water to penetrate. Overtime the freeze-thaw cycle will deteriorate the masonry. This water can also contribute to efflorescence - resulting in soluble salts crystallizing on the outer surface causing rapid masonry deterioration.
Rempel Masonry excels at "repointing", that is to remove the deteriorated mortar from the joints of the wall and replacing it with lime-based mortar. Repointing protects and enhances the building and preserves its historical character.
